It's OK to be Gay - "Frat Boys" Fight Homophobia

Frat Boys at GW Rush to Undo Homophobic Stereotypes

Let me start by saying I'm female, am not in a sorority, have no friends currently that are in fraternity, and have little to no knowledge of fraternal life. I do, however, have two male cousins who were in a fraternity, who are two of the most decent human beings I know, so I'm fully aware that the "frat boy" stereotype doesn't always hold water, just as with most stereotypes.

However, it's very easy to get caught up in such stereotypes. The "frat boy" stereotype (that all men in fraternities are homophobic, sexist, alcoholic, date-raping jocks) doesn't possess the same level of political incorrectness as stereotypes associated with race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, so people who believe it are often let off the hook. Very few, if any, people call TV shows, movies or books that enforce these stereotypes out on their BS. And as such, that's the image of the fraternity that we're continually presented.

But obviously, that isn't always the case. And for once it's nice to see the good guys get the air time. The boys of Beta Theta Pi at George Washington University put principles and values first in their rush, prioritizing the need to find young men of character for their organization, rather than young men that can hold their liquor and eat a lot.

They make it clear from the start that sexism and homophobia are not a part of their fraternity, and they stand by their principles: their vice president is gay, and one sophomore was encouraged to bring his boyfriend to parties. In fact, when that same sophomore was kicked or of the NROTC for being gay, many of his fraternity brothers were angered by the dismissal. (Wow US military, college boys are beating you when it comes to acceptance? That's a surpr- oh wait, no it's not. Get your act together, god dammit.)

Anyways, I think it's fantastic that such organizations exist and are getting news coverage, and I can only hope that this is a sign of things to come.

Comic Ideas

Not that I'm dedicated enough or have enough free time to make a comic, but if I did, which of these sounds most interesting? (Titles not final. Especially "Soul Flight" F*** that crap)

THE GRIMM TALES A retelling of the grim fairy tales. All together. With assassins and mercenaries and stuff. Action, adventure, steampunk, fantasy, angst, drama, horror and romance.

SUNSHINE AND POISON Werewolves and vampires and witches. NOT a romance story about a human and a vampire, just making that clear right now. Such a thing does occur, but it is most certainly not the focus. Action, adventure, fantasy, (slight) angst, drama, horror and romance

DIFFERENT SONS The mob/mafia. With demons and shit. Demon hunting. Action, adventure, fantasy, romance, horror, angst, drama (I’m beginning to see a pattern here)

SOUL FLIGHT Steampunk magic and thieves and occult. Going on an adventure~ to save the world~ Adventure, action, fantasy, horror, angst, drama, (some) romance

ECHO CREEK Two guys, who are actually these vampire/ghost like creatures, go on a journey to save this little girl who HOLDS THE KEY TO THEIR PAST DUNDUNDUN! and another group of people want the girl so that they can TAKE OVER THE WORLD DUNDUNDUN DUN! Fantasy, adventure, action, horror, drama, (occasional) angst, (eventual) romance (maybe if I mix up the tags you won’t realized that they’re all the same…)

Can someone please explain to me why I haven't tracked Neil Gaiman down and had his children yet?

I mean, really, check out his home library.

Although I've got to say, his mounted jackalope head is not as nice as the mounted jackalope head that is in my basement.

...I am not even joking about that guys. Don't judge me.

Plus, according to Jim C. Hines, he is the Chuck Noris of literature.

P.S. Forgot to say that there would be not Artist of the Week update this week 'cause of labor day. Sorry!

The Reason Some Girls Stay Single

What a winner.

I'm so confused...

So I live in an all-girls dorm. And in this all-girls dorm there are a lot of rape/consent awareness posters. They all show a poster of a couple with things like "I wasn't sure how she felt, so I asked" and "My strength is not for hurting, so when she was drunk I stopped." They're somewhat mockable, and I think they're more directed at males so don't really have much use in an all-girls dorm, but it focuses on a very important topic that needs to be addressed, so their cheesiness is forgettable.

They features couples of all races (though no biracial couples...) and are all very politically correct. So maybe I shouldn't be as surprised as I am when I stumbled upon a new one today that featured a homosexual couple.

As in two-males homosexual couple.

In an all-girls dorm.

I am so confused...

(PS It's even better because it was in the bathroom, where no guys are allowed in, and it was the bathroom in the "No Males Visitation" wing, which is a hall where no guys are allowed at all, as opposed to the rest of the dorm where guys are allowed if they're escorted.)

Most/All the prose I post here  (And some art that I haven't posted) is the result of different short, usually one word prompts. I've got a huge list of them, gathered from all over the interwebs. I thought I'd share them with you. (Crossed out ones are the ones I've completed. Italizes are ones I've posted here.
